Finally, I did it – I got the Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L II USM. Boy, that’s a lot of numbers! And it’s my first standard zoom lens for my new EOS 6D Mark II, before I could only shoot with prime lenses in the “normal” spectrum. But now, owning the 24-70mm, I feel perfectly equipped for short trips and travels, to cover most day-to-day purposes. And the 24mm side of the lens really gives you a nice wide angle view, even without a dedicated wide angle lens – although that’s probably the next on my list.
Doing a short trip with the family to Switzerland, this gave the ideal opportunity to get to know the lens better and test it out in the field. And, like you would expect from an L lens – it’s amazing. Sharp already wide open, razor sharp stopped down to f3.5. This lens will be my always-on for most of the time, only replaced by wide angle, portrait and prime lenses whenever the situation requires it. Other than that, this lens now enables the full potential of my full frame DSLR. Couldn’t be happier!
