The South of Bavaria is full of little gems. Just the area of Garmisch-Partenkirchen provides so many beautiful sights, you could spend weeks there and still discover new places. One of those places I wanted to see is Gerold, more precisely Geroldsee/Wagenbrüchsee. This small lake is located in front of the beautiful Karwendel mountain range, with the huts on a grassy hill nearby providing a great composition. When we went there last weekend, we didn’t encounter perfect conditions, but as described in another post it’s really about what you make of them. So, although I’d love to come back one day for a more clear sunset, the surroundings are just lovely.
Just some 30 minutes hike from there, another lake is to be found, lake Barmsee. Significantly larger than Wagenbrüchensee and surrounded by thick forest, it makes for a nice walk as well.
It’s really great to live in an area where it takes only a short drive to be in beautiful places like this. And now, it’s only two weeks left until our trip to the Dolomites – where there’s still significant amounts of snow in the mountains, but it seems to be melting fast, so fingers crossed.
